Here at Cards of Hope, we send out inspirational cards to over 500 people battling cancer weekly. For children in our program, we mail out cards with stickers, tattoos, bookmarks and etc. We run on purely donations. We are in desperate need of stamps. We go through over 2,220 stamps a month. Let’s talk about Pancreatic cancer
November is Pancreatic cancer awareness month
November is Pancreatic cancer awareness month. Did you know that Pancreatic cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer related death in the US?
Here are some more facts about Pancreatic cancer:
- 94% of people with pancreatic cancer will die within 5 years of being diagnosed.
- Only 7 % will survive more than five years.
- About 48,960 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year in the US.
Here are some risk factors for developing pancreatic cancer:
- being a tobacco smoker
- being overweight
- having a family history of pancreatic cancer
- having diabetes
- having chronic pancreatitis (chronic inflammation of the pancreas)
- having cirrhosis of the liver
- stomach problems
- being obese
- working in a workplace that causes exposure to dyes, chemicals or pesticides
*Please note that having one or more risk factors doesn’t mean that you will develop pancreatic cancer, it just means that you have a possible higher chance. Some people have pancreatic cancer without any of the above mentioned factors.

“Normally we always try to make something good come out having to deal with cancer. Well, when my close friend, Pennie was diagnosed with metastatic vaginal cancer and had less than 3 months to live, I just couldn’t think of anything positive that could come out of her fighting cancer and having to go into hospice care. We were super close friends; I went with her to every doctor’s appointment and stayed with her when she had a few stays in the hospital. I stayed with her every day as she battled cancer.

Donations needed
With the upcoming holiday season quickly approaching, Cards of Hope is asking for donations of stamps, Christmas cards, stockings, small children’s toys, board games, puzzles, jewelry sets, Lego kits, action figures, Christmas ornaments, stocking stuffers, Barbies, coloring books, art sets, craft kits, hat and glove sets, gift cards, and money to pay for shipping charges.
Cards of Hope is an international program, where I send inspirational cards to those battling cancer weekly. For children in the program, I send cards with stickers, coloring pages, temporary tattoos and etc. I send out a care packages periodically. Cards of Hope currently has 450 people enrolled and I get about 2-5 people requesting to be in the program every week. My goal is to try to send everyone a little care package this holiday. A cancer warrior going through a care package
This cancer warrior had just gotten home from being in the ER from being sick, when he got a care package. His mom said that it made him smile and that it was perfect timing because he hadn’t smiled because he had been so sick. That is what Cards of Hope is all about…bringing happiness, love and hope.
